Larry Evans, Chief Executive Officer & Founder
Larry joined Rive as co-founder and Chief Executive Officer in 2005. Previously he was the principal founder of Aspen Technology and served as chief executive officer from 1981 to 2002. During this time the company grew from a start-up to become the leading provider of technical software and solutions to the chemical and refining industries. He led Aspen’s successful initial public offering in 1994.
In addition to his business experience, Larry has a strong technical background. He served as professor of chemical engineering at MIT from 1962 to 1990, where was well known for his work in modeling and optimization of industrial processes. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2002. He also served as President in 2007 of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).
Larry holds his BS from the University of Oklahoma and an MS and PhD in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan.
Javier Garcia Martinez, Founder
Javier invented Rive’s core technology while a post doctoral student at MIT. At Rive, he plays a leadership role in technology development and intellectual property strategy.
Javier is currently a Faculty member at the University of Alicante, Spain and has worked in the world’s leading material science laboratories, including MIT, Caltech and UC Berkeley. Javier recently served as editor for "Nanotechnology for the Energy Challenge" (Wiley, 2010), a new book about nanomaterials for energy production, and has published more than thirty articles, three book chapters and two books on nanotechnology and energy.
Javier has been recognized as a leader in nanotechnology and materials science. In 2005, Javier was awarded the Europa Medal, awarded annually to the outstanding European chemist under the age of 35, and he received the Silver Medal of the European Young Chemist Award in 2006. In 2007, Javier received the TR 35 Award from MIT’s Technology Review magazine, and in 2009 Javier was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.
Javier received his BS in chemistry and went on to earn an MS in chemistry from the University of Alicante. He also has a PhD in chemistry from the University of Alicante.
Richard Harter
Dick Harter is of counsel to Bingham McCutchen, where he divides his practice between general corporate counseling and advising on executive compensation and employee benefits.
Dick is President of the Massachusetts Council of Churches. He also serves on the executive committee of the United Church of Christ in Massachusetts and is a Trustee of the Chicago Theological Seminary.
Dick received his BA from Yale University and his JD from the University of Chicago Law School.
Dave Tippeconnic
Dave has over 40 years of experience in the energy industry. His previous experience includes 33 years at Phillips Petroleum Company, retiring as a Board Member, President of Phillips 66 Company and corporate Executive Vice President.
Dave has also served as President and Chief Executive Officer of CITGO Petroleum Corporation and as Chairman of the Board and acting Chief Executive Officer of Cherokee Nation Enterprises. He is currently CEO of Arrow-Magnolia International, Inc. and serves on the Boards of ONEOK, Matrix Services Company and Cherokee Nation Enterprises.
Dave received his BS in chemical engineering from Oklahoma State University and an MS in chemical engineering from the University of Arizona. He also attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University.
Humberto brings a wealth of refining, process licensing and senior leadership experience to Rive Technology. He served as President and CEO of UOP, the leading licensor of technology to the refining, petrochemicals and gas processing industries with annual revenues of more than $1 billion. Prior to joining UOP, Humberto had a 25-year career with BP, where he was Executive Director of BP’s downstream refining division. Most recently he was Senior Vice President of R&D and Engineering for Yukos in Moscow. He is currently president of his own company, Vainieri Consulting.
Humberto earned his MS and PhD in chemical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and his MBA from John Carroll University. Humberto is a member of the University of Pittsburgh Engineering School Advisory Board and also on the Advisory Board of The International Fuel Quality Center. He is also on the Board of Chemrec, a Swedish company that is the world leader of black liquor gasification technology.
Bill Wiberg
Bill is a General Partner at Advanced Technology Ventures, where he focuses on investments in the cleantech sector. He joined ATV in 2003.
Bill has 27 years of operating and venture capital experience, including serving as President of Lucent Technologies’ Cellular and PCS Wireless Networks division. He has also served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA). Bill’s investments include Coskata, CombineNet, GreatPoint Energy, Handango, HVVi, Useful Networks, and Visage Mobile.
Bill received his BS from Cornell University and his MS from Stanford University. He holds an MBA from Columbia University.
Tim Woodward
Tim is a Managing Director of Nth Power, a venture capital firm focused exclusively on energy technology investments. Prior to Nth Power, he managed venture capital investments for Liberty Environmental, a firm focused on energy, industrial and environmental technologies.
Tim currently serves on the boards of AllConnect, H2Gen, Li*On Cells, Soliant Energy, Tioga Energy and OptoElectronix. He is a board observer at Rive.
Tim received his BS from UC Berkeley and his MBA with honors from UCLA.
Mike Zak
Mike is a General Partner with Charles River Ventures, where he has been an investor since 1991. Mike’s investments span communications, technology and renewable energy. His track record includes successful investments in Verenium Corporation, CIENA Corporation, American Internet, ON Technology and Speechworks.
Prior to his work with Charles River Ventures, Mike co-founded Concord Communications and had prior roles with Motorola and McKinsey & Company. He is Vice Chairman of the Board at Emerson Hospital and on the Board of Trustees at Cornell University.
Mike received his BS from Cornell University and his MBA from the Harvard Graduate School of Business.
